Beatles movies star Barry Keoghan ‘couldn’t look’ at Ringo ‘I was so nervous’ | Films | Entertainment
Earlier this year, Sony announced the stars who will play The Beatles in Sir Sam Mendes’ four official biopics, which will be released a week apart in April 2028.
Oscar-nominee Barry Keoghan has been cast as Ringo Starr, and it turns out he’s been practising his drumming.
The Irish actor has also had the chance to meet Sir Ringo at his LA home for coffee and a chat, which the 32-year-old found pretty overwhelming.
He told Jimmy Kimmel, “He played the drums for me. He asked me to play but… I wasn’t playing the drums for Ringo!… It was sort of one of those moments where you’re in awe and you’re just frozen.”
Barry continued: “Yeah I was [watching Ringo to see what I could absorb]. And when I was talking to him, I couldn’t look at him. I was nervous, like right now. He said, ‘You can look at me.’ And again — you’re playing Ringo Starr. My job is to observe and take in kind of mannerisms and study, but I want to humanise him and bring feelings to him, not just sort of imitate him.”
