Avengers Secret Wars leak – ‘Major dead Marvel character is returning’ | Films | Entertainment

This Christmas, The Russo Brothers’ first in their new Avengers two-parter hits cinemas. Avengers Doomsday will see Robert Downey Jr return to the MCU to play the villainous Doctor Doom, alongside Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.

The follow-up, which will conclude Marvel’s hit-and-miss Multiverse Saga, is Avengers Secret Wars, set for release in December 2027.

Fans will know the latter title refers to a famous comic book storyline in which the Marvel multiverse collides into one reality called Battleworld.

This is expected to occur at the end of Doomsday, and no doubt all sorts of variants will pop up in Secret Wars.

With this in mind, a new leak claims that a certain dead MCU character will be returning in the latter movie.

According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello on X: “OMG Thanos is not in Doomsday, but he’s coming back in Secret Wars.” Josh Brolin’s villainous alien perished twice in Avengers Endgame, but thanks to the multiverse has returned via his variants a number of times in the animated show What If? Now it sounds like his live-action self will be back as a variant in Secret Wars, and we think we have a good idea of which one.

Fans in the X post’s comments speculate that Brolin will return as King Thanos. This would make sense given this variant is the villain in the upcoming Disneyland ride Avengers: Infinity Defence, which sees guests traverse the multiverse to battle King Thanos. In his reality, he is victorious and has conquered the universe. Sporting a crown and beard, this would be a great piece of fan service should the leak be correct.

Avengers Doomsday hits cinemas on December 18, 2026 and Avengers Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
