Avengers Secret Wars leak – ‘Dead major Marvel superhero set to return’ | Films | Entertainment
This Christmas, Avengers Doomsday hits cinemas in the first Marvel epic crossover event since 2019’s Avengers Endgame.
Directors The Russo Brothers are back alongside Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Robert Downey Jr as the villainous Doctor Doom.
And just as Infinity War was followed by Endgame, Doomsday will be succeeded by Avengers Secret Wars in December 2027.
The blockbuster conclusion to the MCU’s hit-and-miss Multiverse Saga is now rumoured to feature the return of a dead major Marvel superhero, according to a new leak.
Reliable scooper MyTimeToShineHello shared on X: “I hear Tony Stark/Iron Man will return in Avengers Secret Wars.” This makes a lot of sense given that Downey Jr is already back for both Avengers films as Doom. And since these are multiverse movies, it would presumably mean a climactic fight sequence in Secret Wars between the villain and a variant of Tony Stark’s Iron Man. Basically, it’s gonna be Downey v Downey.
Of course, Earth-616’s Tony sacrificially perished at the end of Avengers Endgame. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has previously spoken out on how the MCU wouldn’t undo Iron Man’s death. So, assuming the leak is correct, we’ll be seeing Downey Jr reprise a Tony variant, just like Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.
Avengers Doomsday hits UK cinemas on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
