Ants will flee from your kitchen if you use this ‘miracle’ 30p fruit
Armies of ants love invading our homes when the weather warms up. They often target kitchens and pantries over the summer months, becoming a nuisance to get rid of.
Experts recommend homeowners to act quickly to prevent the situation getting out of control. Glen Peskett, DIY expert at Saxton Blades, has shared one cheap tip which will help keep them at bay. It involves a food item that most people will have in their kitchen.
Professional pest control services can be expensive so it’s good to know a cheap method that will stop ants roaming around our homes. The use of a certain fruit, which will cost people around 30p, is an effective method to keep them away.
Mr Peskett explained: “Lemon juice is a brilliant natural ant repellent. The strong citrus scent disrupts their scent trails, and the acidity interferes with the pheromones they use to navigate.
“Just squeeze fresh lemon juice around door frames, windowsills, or anywhere you’ve seen ants coming in.” You can also wipe lemon juice on doorframes, skirting boards and windowsills using a cloth to stop the ants accessing entry points.
The experts also recommend limiting entry points around your home. This will ensure ants don’t have the opportunity to get inside in the first place.
Mr Peskett said: “If you’re into DIY, creating a barrier is a great long-term fix. For example, you can cut mesh screens to size using a sharp Stanley knife, perfect for covering vents or air bricks where ants might sneak in.”
Another way to minimise the chances of ants invading your home is to keep your kitchen tidy. Ants often target pantries and food storage areas where there are crumbs and left over food.
People should also consider sealing windows and doors to help negate the pesky invaders.
