Addison Rae Drops ‘Headphones On’: WATCH
Singer is set to to drop her debut album on June 6
Addison Rae wants to skip the tears and stick to the music. On Friday, the pop star released her new single “Headphones On” ahead of her debut album, out June 6.
The Mitch Ryan-directed video sees for the musician with pink earmuffs alongside horses against a sweeping landscape. “Guess I gotta accept the pain/Need a cigarette to make me feel better/Every good thing comes my way/So I still get dolled up,” sings Addison Rae in the chorus. “Guess I gotta accept the pain/Need a cigarette to make me feel better/Every good thing comes my way.”
On the track, Rae sings about escaping into music to get away from life’s troubles, including her parents’ separation. Rae shared a snippet of the song on TikTok and Instagram on Thursday, and has been teasing its release for several weeks.
Last weekend, Rae made a surprise appearance during Arca’s set at Coachella to perform their collaboration “Arcamarine / Aquamarine,” during which she revealed the release date for her anticipated debut album, June 6, on her pink underwear.
”Headphones On” follows February’s “High Fashion” and last October’s “Aquamarine.” Her debut EP, AR, dropped in 2023.
Rae spoke to Rolling Stone earlier this year and shared that she worked with songwriters Luka Kloser and Elvira Anderfjärd, who are signed to Max Martin’s publishing company, MxM Music, to produce the album. “Luka started playing the piano, and then literally, it was like magic,” Rae said at the time about making single, “Diet Pepsi.”
