Aaron Carter‘s mom is hoping her son will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Jane Carter Schneck launched a GoFundMe fundraiser on Wednesday “to secure a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame” for Carter, who died in 2022 at age 34. She is aiming to raise $85,000. Schneck told TMZ that the effort has the support of Carter’s brothers, Nick Carter and Angel Carter.

“The funds will cover the creation, installation, and long-term maintenance of the star,” Schneck wrote on the GoFundMe page. “We are coming together as fans, friends, and supporters to honor Aaron Carter’s legacy. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer. If you’re unable to give, sharing this campaign means just as much. Let’s come together to celebrate Aaron’s life, his music, and the lasting mark he left on so many hearts.”

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame involves a nominations process via the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Each year, the committee selects 24 to 30 people for inclusion on the Walk of Fame. The criteria includes “professional achievement, longevity in the category of five years or more, contributions to the community, and the guarantee that the celebrity will attend the dedication ceremony if selected. Posthumous awards require a two-year waiting period after death.”

The deadline for this year’s nominations is May 15. Schneck confirmed to TMZ that she plans to submit the application for Carter for that date. The application fee is $275. As of early Thursday morning, Schneck’s GoFundMe had raised $186.

Carter died from a drug-linked drowning. The singer was found dead in his bathtub by a housekeeper. According to his autopsy report, Carter “became incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects of inhaling compressed gas and taking alprazolam [Xanax]. This resulted in him becoming submerged under the water, unable to breathe, and ultimately led to his death.”

Carter released his self-titled solo album in 1997 at nine years old and secured a spot opening for his brother Nick’s Backstreet Boys, which made him an overnight global sensation. His sophomore album, the platinum-selling 2000’s Aaron’s Party (Come Get It), featured his biggest hits “I Want Candy” and the LP’s title track. Then also a budding teen actor, Carter appeared on episodes of Lizzie McGuire and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.
