COVER STORY: The addiction of online sports gambling: “Like crack in the ’80s”
The money legally wagered on sports gambling has surged to $167 billion a year since it was legalized beyond Nevada in 2018. But data show, in states where online gambling has been made legal, bankruptcies and credit card delinquencies go up 25%. Correspondent Jim Axelrod talks to a gambler who wagers his annual income; and examines how the online betting platforms FanDuel and DraftKings – now the subjects of lawsuits regarding their design – interact with their customers.

ARTS: A spectacle of puppetry: Buffalo parade through New York City
This past week, a herd of 40 buffalo roamed the concrete canyons of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn – life-size puppets that are part of a public arts project by St. Ann’s Warehouse, a Brooklyn theater company. Correspondent Anthony Mason reports.

ROYALS: Charles Spencer’s striking claims about the royal fallout following Princess Diana’s death
In his first interview about his new book, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,” Charles Spencer talks with correspondent Mark Phillips about his attempt to set down what he calls the true history of the life of his sister, Princess Diana. He also talks about Prince Harry’s grief after Diana’s death, suggesting that a “more understanding treatment” of the young prince at the time might have led to “a happier course ahead.”

HISTORY: Retiring Smithsonian head Lonnie Bunch: “You can run from history, but you can’t hide”
In 2019, Lonnie Bunch became both the first historian and the first African American to serve as Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. Now 73, Bunch has announced he is retiring. He talks with correspondent Mo Rocca about fulfilling and enriching the Smithsonian’s mandate. He also talks about pressure from the Trump White House questioning the patriotism of Smithsonian staff, and why the museums’ mission – to protect history – includes giving America a full picture of itself.

Two-term Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear advises his fellow Democrats to speak like “normal people” and not shy away from progressive politics or religious faith.
