Phoebe Bridgers Gets Unfortunate Birthday Gift: A Hospital Visit
The Lost Weekend singer says her upcoming U.K. show dates will be rescheduled while she recovers from appendicitis
Phoebe Bridgers fans in the U.K. are unfortunately in for a bit of a lost weekend.
The Punisher singer, who celebrated her 32nd birthday on Aug. 17, announced on Instagram that several of her upcoming U.K. shows will have to be rescheduled after Bridgers was diagnosed with appendicitis. “I got appendicitis for my birthday,” she wrote — accompanied by a grim-faced selfie from a hospital bed. “Everything in the U.K. this week will have to move but I’ll make it up to you!”
Have no fear for the intrepid guitarist and Boygenius member. Appendicitis is considered a medical emergency and occurs when the organ gets sore or inflamed. But according to Johns Hopkins, appendicitis is the “most common cause” of sudden stomach pain and can be fixed with surgery and a few days of recovery.
Bridgers released her third studio album Lost Weekend on Aug. 14, her first solo project in six years since the 2020 release of Punisher. Rolling Stone writer Angie Martoccio gave Lost Weekend four-and-a-half stars, calling the album a “spectacular song cycle on love and loss.” “Bridgers makes up for the last several years (you might call it lost time) by giving us her longest and most daring record yet,” she writes in her review. “A tour de force in the art of disappearing, falling in love, and feeling grief so deeply that waking up every day kind of sucks.”
The new U.K. dates have not been announced. Later this fall, Bridgers will kick off her phone-free arena tour Lost Tour. The tour will begin Sept. 15 in Indianapolis, IN at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and conclude Dec. 12 at Sweden’s Avicii Arena.
