The woman alleges the dog bit her on the leg without provocation

Grammy-winning R&B star Ne-Yo has been sued for negligence by a woman claiming his dog “viciously attacked” her when she was delivering a package to his Georgia home.

The plaintiff, Dominique Bridgett, alleges the dog lunged at her and bit her leg on July 12, 2025, as she tried to deliver a package to Ne-Yo’s home in Alpharetta, outside of Atlanta. Bridgett claims Ne-Yo, whose legal name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, knew the dog had a history of aggressive behavior but failed to restrain it as required by leash and animal-control laws.

“As [Bridgett] traveled lawfully [to deliver] a package, defendant’s canine, suddenly and without warning, viciously attacked,” the seven-page lawsuit obtained by Rolling Stone reads. “Defendant’s canine mauled [Bridgett], causing severe bodily injury, pain, shock, and distress.”

Bridgett says she did nothing to provoke the dog. She alleges she already has spent $9,039.50 on medical treatment and that her damages also include future pain and suffering, as well as “lost capacity for enjoyment of life.” (A rep for Smith did not immediately reply to a request for comment. The lawsuit, filed in Fulton County, is seeking a jury trial.)

The new complaint comes after a housekeeper sued R&B star Chris Brown after a mauling by a dog at Brown’s Los Angeles home in 2020. In that case, a jury awarded Maria Avila $13 million in damages in June. Avila gave emotional testimony at the two-week trial, breaking down on the witness stand as she said the attack that left her with severe injuries to her arm and face, extensive scarring, and post-traumatic stress disorder. “I will never be the same again,” she told jurors in Van Nuys, California, on June 24.
