Ryan Gosling will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and fans all have the same wish for his upcoming film debut.

The 45-year-old actor is celebrating success after success this year, as just months after starring in one of 2026’s biggest blockbusters, Project Hail Mary, he has now been confirmed to be joining the star-studded cast list at Marvel, where he will take on the role of Ghost Rider.

Ryan’s role as the flaming motorcyclist was announced at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday (25th July) during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation, where it was also confirmed that his film debut will be in 2028’s standalone title Ghost Rider, which will be directed by Shawn Levy.

The news was then later shared on Marvel’s social media pages, where fans were quick to share their thoughts on the casting, as well as their hopes and expectations for the upcoming film.

And many fans of the Ghost Rider character all had the same wish – as they want to see one actor make a cameo appearance.

In the replies to Marvel’s announcement on X, many fans lamented that the casting of Gosling meant that Nicolas Cage, who played Ghost Rider in the 2007 film of the same name and its 2012 sequel, wouldn’t be able to reprise his role.

However, several of them said they would settle for a cameo appearance from Cage in the 2028 film, which would pay homage to the work he did on the character almost two decades ago.

When one person commented: “Without Nic Cage?”, another responded: “I would bet he makes a cameo.”

And someone else also posted: “Could be a fire cameo in the future!”

One commenter shared in the disappointment of not seeing Cage as Ghost Rider again, writing: “I just told my boyfriend that NO ONE will ever top Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider … ever.”

However, several commenters urged people to embrace Gosling as the new Ghost Rider, as Cage is now “too old” for the role, especially if Marvel plans to make several films. What’s more, Cage is already part of the MCU, as he voices Spider-Man Noir in the animated series of Spider-Man films.

It is believed that Gosling’s portrayal of Ghost Rider will see him take on the original version of the superhero, whose real name is Johnny Blaze.

In the Marvel comics, the stunt motorcyclist agrees to give his soul to “Satan” – who is later revealed to actually be an arch-demon named Mephisto – to save the life of his foster father. As part of the deal, Blaze finds himself consumed by hellfire whenever he’s around evil, which causes his head to become a flaming skull.

The upcoming Ghost Rider film will be the character’s first theatrical release under the Marvel Studios banner, but no further details about the project are known.

Speaking about Gosling’s casting at Comic-Con this weekend, director Shawn Levy said: “Gosling is the absolute s***. I say that with tremendous respect. We spent a lot of time last year making Starfighter, and [when] Ryan started talking about this character, I was like, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ We’ll see you in 2028!”
