2026 has been a particularly tough year for businesses, with many having to shut their doors for good or call in administrators. In recent days, an engineering company, a major high street brand, and a school have all had to file for administration.

There are many reasons a company might have to do this to save all or part of the business. Most commonly, it’s down to increased costs, such as energy bills, or reduced customer spending or footfall. Here are some of the retail administration news items that you might have missed in recent weeks.

GAME

Former titan of the British high street, GAME has collapsed into administration with debts of £16million. The brand, which hadas many as 300 shopfronts in its heyday, formed in 1990 and later took over its former rival Gamestation.

However, back in April, James Saunders and Lauren Wentworth, of KR8 Advisory, were appointed joint administrators, and now their report details the final efforts made to save the company.

The administrators have pointed to difficult market conditions in the years that followed the merger, including Brexit and the rise of digital downloads, as reasons for GAME’s downward spiral.

They said: “The company’s financial position continued to deteriorate during the final quarter of 2025, which historically had been one of the busiest trading months for the business.

“There have been no major console releases since 2020, and large manufacturers have cited global chip shortages as a reason for further delays. Having reviewed the company financial and operational position. It was concluded that the business was no longer viable.”

Galino Limited

Scottish engineering firm Galino Limited entered administration on Tuesday, July 7, with David McGinness and Judith Howson, of AAB Business & Tax Advisory, being appointed joint administrators. The firm confirmed that all 12 staff members have lost their jobs with some set to help the administrators for a “short period of time.”

As reported by The Herald, Mr McGinness said: “Upon appointment, the business ceased to trade and, unfortunately, all 12 staff were made redundant.

“A small number of former employees will be assisting the Joint Administrators in their duties for a short period of time. The joint administrators are engaged with the relevant agencies to co-ordinate supporting the employees through the difficult process.”

While, a spokesperson for AAB Business & Tax Advisory added: “Creditors, employees, customers and other affected parties will be contacted directly with information relevant to them.”

SuperBike Factory Limited

SuperBike Factory Limited, which described itself as Europe’s largest buyer, seller and financier of motorbikes, entered administration on July 20, with James Saunders and Robert Halliday, of KR8 Advisory Limited, appointed as joint administrators.

In a statement on its website, the company confirmed it had ceased trading with immediate effect, writing: “On July 20, 2026, Michael Lennon, James Saunders and Robert Halliday of KR8 Advisory Ltd were appointed as Joint Administrators of SuperBike Factory Group Limited and SuperBike Factory Limited pursuant to the provisions of the Insolvency Act 1986.

“The Companies have ceased to trade with immediate effect. All enquiries regarding the Companies or the Administration, including those from customers, should be directed by email to SBF@kr8.co.uk.”

Lanfine Limited

Homeware brand Lanfine Limited, which trades as The Honesty Works entered administration on July 10, 2026. The Scottish brand, which specialises in the design, printing, and stitching of curtains and cushions, has removed all products from its website.

A notice on the site reads: “I write to inform you that Michelle Elliot and Callum Carmichael of FRP Advisory Trading Limited were appointed Joint Administrators of the Company on July 10, 2026. Please contact john.woodhouse@frpadvisory.com in relation to any outstanding orders.”

CCOS (UK) LTD

CCOS (UK) LTD, a separate legal entity within the wider New Reg group, had administrators appointed as of July 14, with a statement published in the London Gazette on July 20.

Mark Colman and Megan Singleton of Leonard Curtis have been appointed as administrators. According to Companies House, CCOS (UK) LTD was first incorporated in April 2024, meaning it has only just celebrated its second anniversary.

However, CCOS (UK) LTD has reassured customers that the news should have no impact on the operation of the Car.co.uk website. They explain that neither New Reg Limited nor the Car.co.uk business has entered administration.

A statement issued to Express.co.uk said: “CCOS (UK) LTD was one company within the wider New Reg group. Its entry into administration does not affect the operation of the Car.co.uk website, the products and services offered through it, or our customers.

“Car.co.uk continues to operate as normal. Customers can continue to sell their vehicles through the website as usual, and our customer-facing trading operations continue without interruption.

“The administration is a formal step in a group restructuring process and does not affect the group’s ongoing customer-facing operations. We have no further comment while the administration process is ongoing.”

Kirkham Grammar School

476-year-old Kirkham Grammar School entered administration on July 17 according to the Gazette, but has since been swiftly been purchased in a deal which leaders say will secure the long-term future of the historic independent school.

The school has been snapped up by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Sanstha (MMYS), an educational group which operates schools in Australia, the United States and India, after the previous ownership structure became “unsustainable”.

The £6,600-a term institution will now operate through Kirkham Grammar International School Limited, with senior leadership set to be kept in place ahead of the new academic year.
