Don’t throw away net packaging – there’s clever use for your house

It’s that time of the year when every person with an outdoor space is wondering how they can improve their garden and thinking of novel ways to do it. Whether you’re planning on having people round for picky bits, or just want somewhere gorgeous to read your book in the morning, having a garden you can be proud of is lovely.

That’s why, before you throw something away, you should consider whether it can be reused and given a new lease of life, perhaps in your garden.

The woman behind @theknottygarden’s TikTok account shared if you’ve bought something with net packaging, for example, limes, garlic, or oranges, you should consider not throwing the netting away.

It’s too tempting to just bin things and not think about the bigger picture and how the smallest things can improve your life.

And this netting can be used to make something seriously beautiful, which could be laced all around your garden and patio areas.

“Use discarded packaging net to hold flowers in mason jar bouquets,” she explained.

She demonstrated putting the netting over the top of the jar, and then screwing a lid that had a gap in.

Next she cut the excess off when the lid was screwed on so it would stay nice and tight around the lid, and she showed that there were netting gaps in between.

Then, in each individual hole, she placed a different flower that had been cut from her garden, arranging a stunning bouquet which could be replaced anytime when the flowers die off.

The netting kept all the different stems in place, and the finished product looked absolutely gorgeous! And it’s free to do if you already have a spare mason jar and you’ve been growing stunning flowers in your garden, too.

In the comments, someone praised it was a “really good idea,” and it could brighten up anywhere in the home as well as the garden.

And it wasn’t the only top gardening tip she gave, as she also suggested you can “sift potting soil to use it again”.

She also suggested: “Use an upside-down tomato cage with a bamboo tripod for a taller, sturdier trellis,” if you’re growing things that grow upwards.

“Use a stainless steel strainer or colander as an in-ground composter,” was another top tip she gave.

And if you’re going away on holiday and are worried about certain plants, she suggested using a kids’ pool “to keep your plants watered”.
