Now his underrated third film from way back in 2002 is on TV this weekend after being unavailable to watch for a long period of time. The film in question is Insomnia, the only movie Nolan directed that he is not credited with writing.

A remake of a 1997 Norwegian film, Insomnia is a neo-noir psychological thriller starring Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hilary Swank. The plot follows an LAPD detective sent to a remote Alaskan town to investigate a teenage girl’s murder. That’s before his sleep deprivation, caused by (you guessed it) insomnia, causes him to accidentally shoot his partner, leading to being blackmailed by the killer.

Insomnia is on BBC Two at 11:05pm this Friday evening and is streaming on BBC iPlayer now.
