Gary Glitter Faces New Charges of Sexual Abuse Against a Minor
The “Rock N’ Roll, Part 2” singer is already serving a 16-year sentence for crimes against schoolgirls
Gary Glitter, the disgraced 82-year-old glam-rock hit maker who is serving a 16-year sentence for sexually abusing minors during his fame’s peak, will be facing new charges in England for alleged sex abuse crimes against children.
The Metropolitan Police announced on Thursday that they were charging the singer, whose real name is Paul Gadd, with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under age 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14. The BBC reports that the alleged crimes, against one woman, took place between 1978 and 1981.
Gadd will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Aug. 5. The woman making the allegations first came forward in January 2025 and police questioned Gadd that July. Specialist officers are providing the alleged victim with support, according to the BBC.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so,” Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Bethan David said in a statement.
Gadd was convicted in 2015 of sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980. Glitter was released on probation briefly in 2023 but violated the terms and reincarcerated. In 1999, authorities jailed Gadd for possessing child pornography. He moved to Cambodia but was deported in 2002 under suspicion of sex offenses. A Vietnamese court sentenced him to four years in jail for committing obscene acts with two girls, 10 and 11.
The singer, whose “Rock N’ Roll, Part 2” featured prominently in Joker as well as sporting events for decades, has denied being sexually interested in children.
