Barclays issues alert to customers with weddings this year

Barclays has issued guidance for customers facing a packed wedding calendar in the months ahead. As summer approaches, the bank has shared a message for anyone holding wedding invitations. In a social media update, Barclays highlighted that summer typically marks the peak period for social gatherings and celebrations.

The bank, however, suggested that customers can employ strategies to reduce the financial strain on their accounts. On Facebook, a Barclays employee shared tips for navigating their busy calendars during the season.

He told viewers: “Does your calendar look like this? Weddings everywhere, all at once, which is great for your social life, but slightly less great for your bank account. Before you RSVP yes, you’re cordially invited to check out this amazing list of saving options.

“First up, outfits. You don’t need a new one every time. Remember, you can re-wear something. No one’s keeping track. Unless you turn up in a wedding dress, then maybe they are.

“And then there’s the destination stag or hen do. You can love your friends and still not love the price of their trip. Just be honest and suggest something a bit more budget-friendly that you can do with them another time. And finally, if it’s starting to feel like a lot, maybe just stop being so popular.”

In the caption, Barclays added: “Send this to someone whose calendar is already filling up with summer weddings. (They might thank you later).”

The Barclays website also features money-saving challenges that may appeal to customers seeking to build up their funds before special events, reports the Mirror. For instance, the bank recommends the £5 challenge.

Barclays said: “Try setting aside £5 for your savings every time you buy something that costs more than £20. This might seem a bit challenging, but finding that extra fiver is a good way to get into the habit of making sensible savings.

“For example, you could buy a slightly cheaper alternative, opt for a cheaper delivery option when buying online or cut back on something else that day to complete your challenge for that purchase.”

Offering more advice, the bank said customers could create their own rules. Barclays explained: “Setting some ground rules helps you curb unnecessary spending.

“For example, you could set a daily or weekly limit on your spending on nights out or lunches. Maybe taking cash instead of cards when you go out will help you avoid impulse spending.

“Other rules to think about are substituting supermarket own-brand groceries for big brands, or setting spending limits for clothes and shoes. Just keep track of the savings you make this way and you’ll start to see how worthwhile your rules are.”
