Olivia Rodrigo reunited with the Cure’s Robert Smith Saturday at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, where the singer performed a surprise set.

A day after the Cure’s own headlining set at the festival, Rodrigo — who was not on the fest’s lineup — told fans on social media Saturday that she would play Primavera Sound. Rodrigo’s 11-song set featured all her big singles, as well as the debut of You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love’s “What’s Wrong With Me.”

“This song is special to me for many reasons, but primarily because this is my first song I’ve ever done a feature with somebody,” Rodrigo told the crowd. “I am just so proud of it and I’m so glad this song exists, I’m just so fucking over the moon, so I thought I’d let you guys hear it.”

Even though “What’s Wrong With Me” has a feature, Rodrigo didn’t initially say who the other artist involved was; that was reveal was made after the first chorus, when Rodrigo told the crowd, “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Robert Smith.”

Smith then delivered the song’s second verse before the two singers united on the chorus.

This isn’t the first time the two artists have performed together on stage: Smith previously joined Rodrigo at her headlining set at the 2025 Glastonbury, performing “Friday I’m in Love” and “Just Like Heaven” with the singer. That onstage collaboration has now expanded to the studio with “What’s Wrong With Me.”

The Smith collaboration on You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is natural given how much Rodrigo has championed the Cure’s influence on her new album, from name-checking the band’s “Just Like Heaven” on first single “Drop Dead” to releasing a track called “The Cure.”

“I played [Smith] a bunch of other songs on the album,” Rodrigo said in an Apple Music interview. “I adore him and obviously have gotten a chance to kind of get to know him a little bit over the past year.”

Smith himself hinted at a possible collaboration in a British Vogue cover story about Rodrigo. “She calls me up quite a bit to talk about clothes and fashion — and we have enjoyed a couple of memorable nights in the studio together,” he said. “I can’t wait to hear what she does next!”
