A homeowner has slammed their neighbour for parking on their driveway – and then turning the entire neighbourhood against them.

Posting their experience online, the homeowner detailed how they regularly spend several days each week assisting with the care of their parents, as their mum is living with Alzheimer’s disease.

Upon returning from a fortnight-long work trip, they discovered an unfamiliar car parked in one of the driveway spaces they would typically use.

Initially, they presumed family friends or visitors had dropped by, but their father revealed a far more peculiar explanation.

The homeowner said: “My dad finally broke down and said, ‘Yeah, well, apparently your mother told them it was okay. She was just a little confused.'”

Determined to clarify the matter, the homeowner decided to approach the neighbours directly and even brought chocolates in a bid to maintain civility – but matters didn’t unfold as planned.

After knocking on the door multiple times, they were greeted with aggression.

The homeowner said: “Finally, a woman came to the door and opened it barely a centimetre before shouting ‘We’re not interested!’ and closing it again.”

Several days later, they eventually managed to intercept the male neighbour outdoors and calmly outlined the situation.

They said they made it abundantly clear that their mother’s condition meant she could not authorise something of that nature and courteously requested they refrain from parking there going forward.

For a few days, the issue appeared to have been resolved. Yet the moment the homeowner returned to work, the car promptly reappeared on the driveway.

After further attempts to resolve the matter with the neighbours were met with silence, they decided to take matters further and contacted the police.

An officer attended the address and attempted to engage with the neighbours, but according to the homeowner, they initially refused to come to the door.

When the husband eventually emerged, he reportedly claimed he had a “verbal contract” permitting him to use the driveway, as the homeowner’s mother had previously given her blessing. The police officer, however, remained unconvinced.

According to the homeowner, the officer gave the neighbour just two choices — move the vehicle or have it towed away.

The dispute took an even more bizarre twist when the neighbour objected that relocating the car would leave insufficient room for a recently acquired vehicle.

The homeowner said: “The neighbour blurted out ‘But we have a new car and if we move this back here there won’t be enough space!'”

Faced with the imminent arrival of a tow truck, the neighbours reluctantly moved the vehicle.

The officer reportedly cautioned them that any further parking on the property could be treated as trespassing and the car would be removed without hesitation.

Despite subsequently attempting to win over other neighbours with their version of events, the homeowner revealed that nobody was persuaded, leaving them feeling as though they had been cast as the ‘bad guy’.
