A horror movie that left viewers “grossed out” will air on BBC One tonight.

Released in 2022, Bodies Bodies Bodies is a darkly comedic horror film from director Halina Reijn. The screenplay was written by Sarah DeLappe and draws on a story created by Kristen Roupenian.

Featuring a cast that includes Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha’la, and comedian Pete Davidson, the film explores how a party game turns into a night of paranoia, mistrust, and deadly consequences.

The plot follows Bee, a young woman from a modest background in Eastern Europe, who attends a hurricane-themed gathering with her girlfriend Sophie. The event takes place at an upscale mansion belonging to the wealthy family of Sophie’s longtime friend David.

Also present are David’s girlfriend Emma, Alice, a podcast host, Alice’s older boyfriend Greg, and Jordan, whose motives and personality remain unclear throughout much of the story. Another member of the friend group, Max, is absent after leaving following an earlier disagreement with David.

As the evening unfolds, the guests drink, dance, and eventually begin playing a party game called Bodies Bodies Bodies, in which participants pretend to investigate a murder. With mobile phones unable to connect and no easy way to leave, the group becomes trapped when they discover Sophie’s car will not start because its battery has been drained.

Fear quickly takes over. When the others find a survival bag in Greg’s possession containing a knife and a map, they begin to suspect he may be responsible for a death that has occurred on the premises.

At the time, Bodies Bodies Bodies f grossed $14 million at the box office and received positive reviews from critics overall, who praised the humour and the cast’s performances.

However, some fans were a bit unsure. Some of the reviews on Rotton Tomatoes read: “Maybe one of the most mid films I’ve ever seen. The pacing and action are all fine as is the story, but it’s heavily dragged down by the characters. Most of them border annoying (aside Greg & David), notably Alice.”

Another said: “I’m not sure what they were actually trying to do with this. I was grossed out in the first 20 seconds. Meh, not for me.”

But some were more complimentary and said: “The film is not scary. but it is very clever, interesting, funny and awkward. Overall it’s actually quite good and definitely worth your time.” While another added: “Masterpiece. It’s that simple.”

Bodies Bodies airs Firday 5th June at 11:20pm on BBC One.
