Psychological movie is ‘one of the best movies’ – streaming on Amazon | Films | Entertainment

Amazon Prime lovers will be pleased to learn that a new film, which has received critical acclaim, is now streaming on the platform.

Twinless is a psychological black comedy film written and directed by James Sweeney, who also stars in the movie alongside Dylan O’Brien.

Aisling Franciosi, Chris Perfetti, François Arnaud, Tasha Smith, and Lauren Graham star in supporting roles. Twinless had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in early 2025.

The film’s synopsis reads: “In Twinless, two young men meet in a twin support group and form an unlikely friendship. Roman (Dylan O’Brien) and Dennis (James Sweeney) both search for solace and an identity without their other halves and soon become inseparable outside the group. But when Roman meets Dennis’ ebullient co-worker, Marcie (Aisling Franciosi), all is revealed to be not what it seems, as each man harbours secrets that could unravel everything.”

Twinless has amassed an incredible score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics’ consensus reads: “James Sweeney’s sophomore outing reveals a twisty, grief-ridden journey of the unexpected – buoyed by a perfectly sensitive Dylan O’Brien.”

One critic said: “A cute, warm-hearted indie darling this is not. Twinless is an uncomfortable, pitch-black comedy you won’t be able to look away from, with a career-best performance from Dylan O’Brien.”

“An emotionally rich, darkly comic rollercoaster, with its impact marinating in my mind for days. Twinless is a true original,” added a second.

Another said: “The less you know about this one, the better. Intelligent and inventive, Sweeney’s unconventional grief comedy is full of surprises and is next-to-impossible to discuss without spoiling.”

One fan of the movie wrote: “I loved it! It had me dying of second-hand embarrassment to the point where I had to pause it and couldn’t look at the screen lol. But that’s how you know the acting was really good. The story was portrayed really well as it deep dives into the emotions of these characters and explored their complexities. The ending threw me off a little bit but it was still a great movie overall.”
