But now a personal possession of the Duke’s has gone up for auction across the pond here in London. The item in question was a 14ct yellow gold signet ring featuring the star’s initials, JW, engraved on its oval face.
Auctioned at Elmwood’s, the initial pre-sale estimate was £2000, but Wayne’s ring ended up selling for a whopping £12,350, some six times the original prediction. Enthusiastic bidding from across world was won out by an American private collector in the end. Sophie Padfield Head of Jewellery at Elmwood’s auctioneers, said: “The extraordinary interest in these lots demonstrates how objects with personal and historical significance continue to capture the imagination of collectors.”
