‘Cher fans gasp when they see me because I look so much like her’ | US | News
A woman bears such an uncanny resemblance to a young Cher that people are convinced she’s somehow turned back the clock. Samantha Davidoff, 31, known as Sammy, recently went viral after posting a video informing her followers that strangers frequently compare her appearance to the legendary star.
Having captured widespread attention on TikTok, she’s now spoken candidly about what it’s like to be likened to the iconic singer, who celebrates her 80th birthday on May 20. People regularly mistake Sammy for Cher owing to her remarkably similar features and flowing dark locks.
The Miami resident has now revealed her thoughts on being compared to the celebrated singer so frequently, and it’s fair to say she’s thoroughly flattered by the likeness. She’s thrilled to be likened to the total music icon, and some people even gasp when they see her.
When asked how the comparisons first began, she said: “There were definitely people (strangers) that I’d meet who would say ‘oh my gosh, has anyone ever told you that you look like Cher?’ It would happen every now and then starting maybe eight or 10 years ago.
“But, when I started posting more on TikTok over the last year and also going live, that’s when I would start hearing it from people ALL the time. I’ve never done a TikTok live without at least one person saying it.”
She added: “I love it! I take it as a huge compliment, because Cher was such a style icon when she was my age and, on top of that, she’s beautiful and so talented.”
She admits that people frequently liken her to a “young Cher”, perhaps not necessarily to suggest she appears older than her years. Cher song lyrics are regularly quoted at her, and comments on the resemblance are commonplace.
Fortunately, she takes it all in good stride. Sammy is a devoted Cher fan, with “Believe” ranking amongst her all-time favourite tracks. She regards Cher as a formidable woman and an undeniable icon — qualities that Sammy herself greatly aspires to embody.
“Honestly, I don’t think there’s any bad part about being compared to her,” she added. “She’s a great person to look up to and to be compared to.
“We obviously have differences, but I think it’s fun to make videos to her songs and play into it. One day I will have to dress up as her for Halloween. I just need to find the perfect outfit first.”
Sammy, a social media marketing strategist and content creator, partners with brands across a range of industries to produce their content, expand their platforms and strengthen their overall digital presence, while also creating content for her own channel.
It is through this work that a growing number of people have begun to take notice of her striking appearance. She explained: “I think what’s been interesting is how the comparison to Cher has opened up a lot of conversations and visibility, but I really see it as an entry point rather than the full story.
“My focus is on building something long-term, both as a creator and on the business side, and using that attention in a way that’s intentional and aligned with the kind of brand I want to build.
“If you’d like to follow along, you can find me on TikTok at @samantha_davidoff. And for brands looking to elevate their social media presence or content strategy, I’m always open to connecting!”
