A full-time opening has emerged in one of London’s most affluent postcodes. Describing it as an “exceptional opportunity”, Achieve Hospitality has launched a search for a full-time cook and laundress for a private household in the London neighbourhood of Chelsea. The salary for the job is between £50,000 and £55,000 per year, depending on experience, and the candidate must be an accomplished cook.

Many Brits see themselves as skilled cooks and homemakers, but few consider pursuing it as a career. While opportunities like this are rare, they can pay rather well for the right person. The successful candidate would work for a client residing in a fully staffed “high-standard private residence”. They are searching for “a dedicated individual who takes pride in delivering excellent home cooking, meticulous garment care, and maintaining an organised household environment“.

The “duel-role” is ideal for a person who “thrives in a structured, team-oriented household and enjoys contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of a private home”.

“This position combines culinary responsibilities with full laundry and wardrobe management,” the job ad reads. “The successful candidate will work closely with the House Manager and other household staff to uphold the highest standards across all areas of the home.”

Among the kitchen and food services responsibilities of the role are planning and preparing family-style meals tailored to preferences and dietary requirements, managing kitchen inventory, cleaning, table setting, and food waste management.

When it comes to laundry and wardrobe care, responsibilities include a full daily laundry service for the household, washing and ironing, coordinating external dry cleaning when necessary, organising and maintaining wardrobes to a high standard and packing for travel.

The successful candidate also needs to assist with general housekeeping duties when required and “work collaboratively with the household team to maintain high standards throughout the residence”.

Those interested in the role should have at least five years of experience in a private or HNW household, expertise in garment care, laundry techniques, and fabric handling, and a proven ability to prepare healthy, high-quality home-cooked meals.

Additionally, they should be proactive, self-motivated, organised with exceptional attention to detail, comfortable working within a team environment, discreet and trustworthy, and flexible with changing schedules.
