English actress Emma Watson has appeared in numerous films, from the 2017 Beauty and the Beast remake to 2012’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Nevertheless, the star – who celebrates her 36th birthday this week – remains most recognised for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series.

Watson shot to prominence after securing her first professional acting role at age nine as Hermione in the Harry Potter franchise (2001–2011). Her debut film performance garnered her a Young Artist Award. Yet despite achieving remarkable success through the beloved film series, the actress has confessed there were some ‘horrifying’ moments during filming – including an extremely awkward kiss.

Emma Watson has famously described the highly anticipated kiss between Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione in Deathly Hallows: Part 2 as the most “horrifying” experience of her career.

Having grown up alongside Grint since she was nine, she revealed that kissing him felt like “incest” as they were more akin to siblings than romantic partners.

Fans frequently discuss how uncomfortable the kiss appeared on platforms such as Reddit.

After clips of their original kissing scene were circulated, one Harry Potter enthusiast observed: “That looked extremely awkward and adorable at the same time!”

Another fan noted: “Oh man, poor Emma! Having guy friends I’ve known for years, I know exactly how awkward that is! It’s like kissing your brother. But talk about a dedicated actress!”

A third chimed in: “I really wish Rupert and Emma had ended up together. I feel that they spent too much time together pretending to be in love, that I expected them to actually fall in love with each other in real life.”

The scene became even more challenging as the entire production crew insisted on being present to witness the culmination of a decade-long love story, placing enormous pressure on the pair.

Beyond that particular moment, Emma also revealed other physically gruelling and ‘miserable’ scenes she endured.

Shot for Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the Gringotts Escape (The Dragon Scene) saw the trio leaping from a dragon into icy water.

The sequence demanded multiple takes in the bitter cold, ultimately leaving the cast suffering from mild hypothermia. Remarkably, this was filmed on Emma’s 19th birthday.

The Yule Ball entrance proved equally uncomfortable for Emma. Despite being adored by fans, Watson found shooting her grand entrance in Goblet of Fire utterly miserable, reportedly stumbling on the staircase and falling in front of the whole crew during one take.

And beyond the kiss with Grint, Emma also described the “hallucination” kiss with Daniel Radcliffe in Deathly Hallows: Part 1 as ‘incredibly awkward’ for both actors given their close friendship.
