Julieta Venegas, Yahritza Y Su Esencia Release ‘La Linea’
It marks the third track from the Mexican icon’s upcoming LP Norteña
Julieta Venegas has delivered a salve for the times with the help of Yahritza y Su Esencia on “La Línea.” Across the norteño track, the Mexican icon and Mexican-American trio details the painful separation that comes from migration and deportations.
“‘La Línea’ is about two people who have been separated by a deportation,” Julieta said in a press release for the track. “A line that seems not to exist changes everything in the lives of many families, couples, loves — stories that are paused and often cut short for not having been born in the country where they try to build their lives,” she added.
Venegas continued: “I grew up in Tijuana and have seen how those stories have been changing. Before, when someone was deported, they were seen as if they were a criminal, with the idea that they could only have been deported for having done something illegal. But now people can be considered illegal simply for having arrived from another country.”
In order to evoke the painful yearning that comes with the song’s subject, the singer tapped Yahritza y Su Esencia. The band dealt personally with the challenges of immigration given that Mando, the older brother in the band, had to leave to Mexico for a period of time since he’d been living in the U.S. as an undocumented person.
“I believe Yahritza’s voice perfectly expresses the pain of separation and the emotion of wanting to see someone again, and to say, ‘Until the day I return to you, I will keep singing,’” Venegas said in the press release. She added, “It is a song of love, of hope, of wanting to be with a loved one again despite the obstacles.”
“La Línea” marks the third single from Venegas’ new album Norteña, set for release in May. Previously, the singer shared “Tengo Que Contarte,” her collaboration with Mexican singer Natalia Lafourcade.
