People might find themselves with some more free time during the long Easter weekend from Friday, April 3, to Monday, April 6. In this four-day stretch, the UK will have two more of its 2026 bank holidays, and some might plan a shopping trip during that time.

Easter Sunday has religious significance, and certain major retailers across England and Wales will be shutting their doors to the public. The law in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland states that large shops (exceeding 280 square metres) must remain shut for the day.

The same rules also provide these retailers with a legal reason to close on Christmas Day. Major brands have confirmed their Easter arrangements, with chains including B&M, Home Bargains, Primark, Dunelm and The Range making clear when customers will be unable to enter.

It’s always best to check online, as certain store opening times may differ. Further details can be found on a brand’s particular website.

B&M bosses have previously said that all outlets in England and Wales will be shut on Easter Sunday. But, its Scottish branches will operate as normal on April 5.

B&M stores will generally be accessible on Good Friday and Easter Monday with standard or marginally reduced bank holiday hours, usually between 8am or 9am until 7pm, though it is best to confirm with your local branch.

Home Bargains, The Range and Dunelm have also confirmed that most outlets will be shut on Easter Sunday. Similar to B&M, the Scottish branches may be open on Easter Sunday, as the legislation that makes shops close does not apply there.

Home Bargains outlets typically open on Good Friday and Easter Monday, often with shortened hours, usually 9am to 6pm or 7pm, but it’s best to check before visiting closer to the time. The same guidance applies to The Range and Dunelm, reports the Mirror.

Primark shops will also be shut on Easter Sunday due to the same legislation, but customers can still shop in the days leading up to Easter Sunday. Most stores will operate as usual on Good Friday and Saturday, and will reopen on the bank holiday Monday.

Apart from B&M, which does not provide this feature on its website, shoppers wishing to buy items for collection or delivery at a later date can shop online with Home Bargains, The Range, Dunelm and Primark.

Due to the size of most stores exceeding the law’s maximum permitted hours for Easter Sunday, most supermarkets will not be open on Easter Sunday – including Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Lidl. Smaller branches such as Asda Express, Morrisons Local, Tesco Express, and some Co-operative stores will be able to remain open.
