Jack White Slams Trump’s Signature on U.S. Dollars Amid Gas Prices
Trump will be the first sitting U.S. president with a signature appearing on currency
Jack White has once again taken to social media to denounce President Donald Trump and his administration. On Friday, the musician criticized the U.S. Treasury Department’s plans to put Trump’s signature on all new U.S. paper currency. Traditionally, U.S. dollars feature only the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer, and this will mark the first time a sitting president’s signature has appeared on paper notes.
“Oh how humble!” White mockingly wrote in a lengthy Instagram post, before suggesting Trump use his
“small hands to sign into law that your oh so stern orange face appears on the front of the hundred dollar bill as well.” White slammed the move in part because the announcement comes as everyday Americans struggle amid rising costs of living. Trump’s campaign against Iran, which launched Feb. 28, has led to skyrocketing gas prices, which could lead to inflation and pile more economic pressure on Americans.
“The TSA agents are selling plasma to pay rent while he takes the day off, cheats at golf, and bombs other countries for fun. Gas prices are surging as a world wide crisis that HE caused rages in the Middle East,” White pressed on. The singer-songwriter pointed out that in the meantime, Trump has managed to find time to tour Graceland, banter on Fox News, and sign into law his “bloated, cocky signature on all U.S. currency.”
“Wouldn’t it be funny if someone started a campaign to black magic marker line out his name every time you receive a new banknote?” White continued. “I think that’s against the law to deface U.S. currency, so I would never suggest that becoming a nationwide campaign…..but is everyone allowed to break the law when they feel like it or just donnie?”
The guitarist has been a vocal critic of Trump. Last month, White criticized the president’s declaration of war against Iran and his hypocritical stance on peace. “Behold the leader of the ‘Board of Peace,’” White wrote in a social media post at the time. “For the next war announcement donny, may I suggest having your feet up on the Resolute desk while eating a Big Mac in a velvet track suit?”
