Britney Spears Breaks Silence After DUI Arrest
Earlier this month, the pop star was arrested for driving while under the influence of a “combination of drugs and alcohol” and released from custody overnight
Britney Spears is breaking her silence and speaking out for the first since she was arrested earlier this month for suspected “driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol” in California, per authorities.
The pop superstar returned to social media on March 27 with a video on Instagram which featured her dancing, as has become her signature move in recent years. In the clip, her 19-year-old son Jayden Federline is dancing alongside her as she records them both in a mirror. “Thank you guys for all your support… spending time with family and friends is such a blessing,” she wrote “Stay kind !!!”
The post reflects the sentiment a rep for Spears provided to Rolling Stone shortly after the arrest and subsequent release. “Her boys are going to be spending time with her,” the rep said at the time. “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being,” they added. As for the arrest, the rep said, “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable… Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
On March 4, Spears was taken into custody when she was arrested by the California Highway Patrol at approximately 9:30 p.m. A CHP spokesperson told Rolling Stone officers suspected Spears was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. “At approximately 8:48 p.m., a black BMW 430i was reported to the CHP’s Ventura Communications Center for driving erratically at a high rate of speed on southbound US-101,” the spokesperson said at the time. “CHP officers located the BMW near Westlake Boulevard and initiated an enforcement stop. … The solo occupant, Ms. Spears, showed signs of impairment and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests. Ms. Spears was subsequently arrested for a violation of California Vehicle Code section 23152(g), driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol, and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.”
Spears was booked at 3 a.m. on March 4 and released a few hours later around 6 a.m. The singer’s arrest was listed as “cite and release” and she will have to report to Ventura County Superior Court on May 4.
