There’s a lot of mid-budget forgettable action horrors these days, but thankfully, They Will Kill You isn’t one of them.

Deadpool and Atlanta star Zazie Beetz stars as ex-convict Asia Reaves, fresh out of a decade in prison in this new flick produced by IT director Andy Muschietti.

After applying for a housekeeper job at a New York City high-rise, her true intentions become clear.

She’s on a mission to rescue her sister, who has been working as a maid in the building occupied for the last century by a Satanic cult.

After a Kill Bill-inspired bloodbath in her hotel room, where she slays her would-be assassins played by Tom Felton and Heather Graham, it soon dawns on her that they’re immortal. The first half of They Will Kill You is heavily inspired by Tarantino with impressive action set pieces alongside Looney Tunes-level cartoonish antics involving a flaming axe-head. The real horror comes from the fact that despite her John Wick-level talent as a one-woman army, she’s helpless against these immortals (led by Patricia Arquette’s Lilith) who can grow their body parts back and are bent on sacrificing her to the Devil himself.

Amid all this and the action thrills is plenty of black comedy, as she works her way through the apartment building searching for her sister and escape. Of course, it all comes to a final showdown with Lucifer himself presented in a creepy and creative way that we won’t spoiler here. And at only 90 mins, here’s hoping there’s a sequel!

They Will Kill You is out in UK cinemas on Friday.
