Many people like to express themselves when it comes to decorating their home these days. However, there’s not much room for creativity in England’s ‘strictest’ village where pretty much everything is painted green.

Those who also like a kebab or fish and chips may want to avoid visiting one Yorkshire village of Wentworth too, as takeaways are banned, as are supermarkets.

The historic estate village is known for its strict preservation rules managed by the Fitzwilliam Wentworth Amenity Trust.

Takeways, supermarkets and ‘flashing neon signs’ are all banned to preserve its traditional character.

Instead, dining is limited to a few traditional options like the Rockingham Arms, the George and Dragon pub, and the Village Tearooms.

Every front door in the village must be painted a specific shade known as “Wentworth Green” (also called Hollybush Green or BS 14C39). Drainpipes and gates are also typically required to be the same shade too while window frames must be painted off-white.

Most external walls of buildings in the village are made of local sandstone, and any changes must be approved by the trust.

Influencer Robbie Thompson, who boasts 87,500 followers on Instagram, took to the site recently to share a reel about the village as he branded it the “strictest village in England”.

He said in the clip the pubs, shops and restaurants only serve British food and that the village has a traffic and tourism steering group, who monitor parking and traffic levels.

Robbie, who describes himself as a ‘champion of British food’ also said the village shop, aptly named The Village Shop, serves English jams, chutneys, teacakes, black pudding pork pies and an “incredibly good” steak and ale pie with mushy peas, mint sauce and gravy.

Meanwhile in the tea room (simply named The Village Tea Room), Robbie claims owner Jane makes the “lightest lemon sponge you’ll ever eat”.

In the pubs, you’ll find more British classics, such as Scotch Eggs and Sticky Toffee puddings, according to the influencer.

He also says you’ll spot honesty boxes that are dotted around the village which sell local honey and eggs.

Many people were loving the post, as it racked up more than 53,000 likes, as one exclaimed: “Love this.”

Another added: “That steak pie with mushy peas looked real legit though.”

A third chimed in: “I’m Filipino and I love visiting villages like this. I always say British people should be proud their culture.”

However, someone else quipped: “Looks like they could do with a kebab shop.”
