Benny Blanco Says Selena Gomez Lost Her Vows Five Days Before Wedding
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco apparently had a few hiccups at their wedding last year. Blanco admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live that his bride-to-be lost her wedding vows “five days before the wedding for like four days.”
The producer stopped by the late-night show alongside his pal Dave Burd, a.k.a. Lil Dicky, to discuss their new podcast Friends Keep Secrets, and took the opportunity to share how he eventually found Gomez’s vows “right before the wedding.”
“They were handwritten,” Blanco said. “I didn’t look. I closed my eyes and handed them to her. I swear! I swear I didn’t look. But how good is that? It made me look so good. It was like the best thing I could have done. I’m about to marry her and then I find the thing? She was crying.”
Blanco also shared that he invited Burd to officiate the wedding, but Gomez asked him to remove several parts of the speech because they were part of her vows.
“He came over to where we were having the wedding and we were all getting ready where we were having the thing and I was on the phone with my wife and she was going over her speech and she said, ‘Hey, just make sure Dave doesn’t say anything about this part or this part because it’s part of my speech,” Blanco recounted. “And that was the whole opening three minutes of his speech.”
Blanco and Gomez have shared some details from their wedding, which took place on Sept. 27 in California, over the past few months. The guest list included Taylor Swift, who gave a speech, as well as Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short.
Last month, Short told Kimmel how he almost ruined the wedding by cutting into the cake early. “I just assumed there was a wedding cake for each section,” Short said. When Martin said he was leaving, Short, a few cocktails in and fork in hand, said, “Oh Steve, you can’t leave yet without a piece of wedding cake.”
“And I cut the wedding cake on one side and then cut it on the other, and then all the people in our group screamed, ‘Marty!’” he recalled. “It was the wedding cake.” Short and Martin wanted to keep the incident a secret from Gomez. “But then as I was leaving Selena came by [and said], ‘Hey Marty, I hear you tried to eat my cake!’” Short said.
