Toys sold at Asda, Tesco and M&S urgently recalled over serious risk

Toys from shops including Smyths, The Entertainer, Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Asda and Amazon have all been urgently recalled owing to a serious health hazard. The children’s products have been reported to the authorities as they may contain asbestos.

Consequently, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued multiple recall notices. Anyone with these items has been urged to cease using them immediately and dispose of them safely. Asbestos is a prohibited substance because even at minimal levels, it can present a health risk.

The OPSS has provided disposal instructions for anyone with the toys to follow and urged customers to seek a refund.

Stretcherz Toys

Multiple HTI Toys Stretcherz Toys have been recalled from customers and withdrawn from sale. They are described as stretch toys filled with sand-like material, reports the Mirror.

The toys were available at Aldi, Argos, Asda, Smyths Toys, Tesco, TK Maxx/Homesense, and The Works. Different variations of Stretcherz toys were stocked at the retailers.

Colour Day’s Sand Art activity kit has been recalled and is described as a craft toy containing 10 bags of coloured sand, 10 bottles, and tools. The toys were available on Amazon and eBay.

The online marketplaces have removed the listings, and anyone with the product has been urged to stop using it straight away.

Out To Impress Sand Art Creations

Addo Play Limited’s Out To Impress Sand Art Creations has been recalled owing to the asbestos risk. It is a sand art kit containing multiple colours of play sand and plastic bottles.

The product was sold by The Entertainer, Tesco, Matalan and M&S stores and websites between August 2023 and February 2026.

The toy bears the item code: 318-19149-B. Customers must cease using the toy immediately and request a refund.

What to do if you have an affected toy

The OPSS urges anyone with the items to stop using them straightaway. It added: “If the sand is still in its packaging, place in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double tape it securely, label it clearly and store in a secure location out of the reach of children.

“If the sand has been used, clean up sites where the product was used using wet cloths to avoid generating dust. Wear gloves and a mask. Double bag the sand, gloves, mask and cloths. “.

The OPSS continued: “Keep children and other people away from areas where the sand has been used until the area has been cleaned.

“Return the product to the place of purchase for redress. If you are unable to get to the store, please follow the instructions above and dispose of the product in your general household waste. Contact the distributor you purchased from for a full refund.”
