3 Freida McFadden books better than ‘masterpiece’ Housemaid as it arrives on Prime | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

The Housemaid is finally available to stream on Amazon Prime via a purchase option after hitting the big screen in December, and fans are thrilled. The hit thriller was originally written in 2019, but wasn’t published until 2022 after pushbacks that it was “too dark”. It ultimately became the start of something huge for author Freida McFadden when it became a best-seller, prompting multiple sequels and a lot of additional thrillers after that. Speaking as someone who has read quite a lot of Freida’s thrillers now, I feel like I can weigh in on what I think some of her best books are, some that are perhaps even better than The Housemaid.

Granted, I loved the second in the book series, but I’m going to make some suggestions completely separate to the series, but it goes without saying that if you enjoyed The Housemaid, the additional books that followed Millie’s arc should go on your reading list immediately. But what else should be on there?

For me, The Locked Door was one that took me by surprise with its twist at the end; though at first I thought it felt so completely random. And while it did feel random, it all lined up to make sense and one thing I do love is when you’re well and truly down the rabbit hole of someone else being the guilty party, and the actual one takes you completely by surprise; Freida is very clever with how she writes her twists. After reading this, it’s one that hasn’t actually left my mind. I would love to tell you what I thought was going to happen vs what actually did, but I’m not looking to give spoilers right now as I think it is a book that deserves to be read. It’s definitely stuck with me, and as a result it has landed spot three on this list.

This isn’t an unpopular opinion, it is widely determined as one of Freida’s best books. Most people who have read The Housemaid have also read The Teacher, and outside of The Housemaid sequels, it is the next one to be made into a film. There is a twist where clues were dropped throughout, and I do love when that happens because when you do get hoodwinked, you can see it was right in front of you the whole time.

The Teacher has the perfect level of twist, disturb, and critical thinking which I absolutely love. I would guess that The Teacher is going to perform almost as well as The Housemaid at the Box Office because it’s such a hit and holds the perfect amount of controversy. But first, read the book, it’s a define must-have.

If I remember rightly, The Surrogate Mother was the second book I read of Freida McFadden’s and it was one of my absolute all time favourites. It was so twisted, but also quite realistic, a lot of her books are quite a stretch, but this was essentially about a woman becoming infatuated with her husband and having an affair while being their surrogate, it was messy, but given the situation, it could be deemed quite realistic. The entire book is basically a he said/she said, not knowing who is telling the truth until right at the end, and for that, I absolutely loved it.
