Shakira to Perform Free Concert at Mexico City’s Zocalo Plaza: Details
“It’s time to give back some of all that affection you’ve given me,” the Latin star wrote in a social media post
Mexico City is about to experience a night to remember. Shakira just announced that she will be returning to the city’s famed Zócalo main plaza for the first time in 20 years to put on a free concert. The show will take place on Sunday, March 1, at 8 p.m. local time.
““¡México lindo! Remember 2007 when I sang for you at the Zócalo? Today, I want to tell you that this experience will happen again” Shakira said in her message. “You have given me so, so much, and I hope I can give back a little bit of that love you’ve given me.”
In that same social media post, the Latin star let fans know that the performance will be broadcast live across her channels, “for everyone who wants to join in this celebration.” She also made sure to thank her fans, Mexico City’s government, and Corona, whose Grupo Modelo will be sponsoring the event.
In a separate social media post, Clara Brugada, the head of government of Mexico City, shared her excitement for the show. “Shakira is an extraordinary Latin artist who has triumphed worldwide, and here in Mexico, we love her very much,” she said.
The last time Shakira graced the storied Zócalo plaza was in 2007. Back then, she drew a crowd of 210,000 people. Mexico City should expect an even larger crowd for the superstar’s grand return. After all, she’s been on a record-breaking run with her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour. Last month, Shakira’s tour officially set the Guinness World Record for the highest grossing tour from a Latin artist of all time.
