Co-op recalls popular freezer staple and warns ‘do not eat it’
Supermarket chain Co-op has made a recall announcement for one of its food products, after an undeclared allergen was found in the item and not mentioned on the label. The freezer product has been recalled over the inclusion of milk in the product, which was made in packaging mistake, and therefore the allergen was not included on the product’s ingredient list.
The Food Standards Agency made the announcement on Monday, February 9, explaining that the Co-op Irresistible Triple Cook Thick Cut Chunky Chips were “incorrectly packed” with Dauphinoise potatoes. Customers have been urged not to eat the affected product as it is a “possible health risk” for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk. The FSA’s risk statement read: “This product contains milk making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.”
The affected product in question is:
- Co-op Irresistible Triple Cook Thick Cut Chunky Chips 360g, with the use-by-date February 14, 2026
Co-op further explained in its announcement that the undeclared milk in the chunky chips contained milk due to an incorrect product being included in the packaging. It said: “Product should contain chips not dauphinoise potatoes.”
The supermarket advised customers to dispose of the product immediately.
For any customers who’ve bought the product, Co-op shared some advice about steps to take, explaining that for a refund of replacement will be subject to availability, please visit your local store.
If purchased online, you can receive a refund by calling 0330 041 7737. You can contact our Customer Careline on 0800 0686 727 or email via Product issues or returns – Co-op (coop.co.uk).
Co-op said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
