I shopped at Sainsbury’s at unexpected time and found so many yellow stickers

For those on the lookout for great deals, yellow sticker items are the ultimate treasure during any supermarket trip. They provide significant discounts on products that are often close to their best-before dates, and you can find them on a wide range of items, including milk, dairy products, fresh fruits, vegetables, and baked goods. It’s beneficial for both customers and retailers. Disposing of yellow sticker items prevents food waste, while shoppers can take advantage of significant discounts on essential grocery items.

Given that Sainsbury’s is a two-minute walk away from my house and I was in a rush, I went there to pick up a few essential grocery items for my evening meal. Going in for just potatoes, bacon, ham, and tomatoes, I found myself getting sucked in by all the yellow stickers I found. I was surprised by the amount of reductions as my local Sainsbury’s typically puts out yellow stickers in the evening.

I love going around Sainsbury’s looking for Nectar card deals and yellow stickers, but I typically only find the reductions between 5pm and 7pm.

This time around, I popped to Sainsbury’s during lunchtime at around 1:30pm and found a huge selection of reductions in three areas of the store.

While picking up some tomatoes and potatoes, I found a mix of fruit and vegetables had been reduced, such as swede, tenderstem broccoli, potatoes, oranges and pineapple chunks.

I had to pick up at least two packets of the tenderstem broccoli as they were just 40p down from £1.60. I love roasting them with olive oil, lemon and parmesan.

I also put a swede in my basket as they were selling for only 15p. Both the broccoli and swede looked fresh and had no signs of going bad.

Often, when I see broccoli reduced in supermarkets, the heads have lightened significantly or turned yellow.

Moving onto the meat section, where I was picking up bacon, I found some chicken thighs for £3.45, pork ribs for £2.72 and some 20% fat beef mince reduced to £1.90. The reductions were not as great as the fruit and veg, but they were fairly decent.

As I didn’t need any of the meat, I moved on to grabbing some ham. In this area, I found a fair few ready meals, pizzas, snacky bits and desserts on offer.

To list a few things, there was a sausage-filled Yorkshire pudding that had gone down to £2 from £4.15, some Taste The Difference vintage cheddar and bacon sausage rolls for £1.32 down from £3.25 and a cherry pie for £1.92 down from £3.85.

Looking back on it now, I wish I had picked up the cinnamon bun pudding that had reduced to £2.15 from £4.35.
