Tonight, ITV is airing a gangster film hailed as ‘a masterpiece’ and touted by cinephiles as ‘a must see’.
Reservoir Dogs, which hit the big screen in 1992, spins a tale of a motley crew of criminals, each known only by colour-coded aliases like Mr. White and Mr. Orange.
They’re enlisted for a diamond heist that spirals into chaos, leaving the remaining members to regroup at a warehouse.
Tensions escalate as they grapple with paranoia, mistrust, and violence, all while trying to unmask the undercover police informant among them.
This was Quentin Tarantino’s directorial debut, and it quickly garnered acclaim from Hollywood, thanks in part to its stellar cast featuring Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Tierney, Michael Madsen, and Edward Bunker.

The film has since achieved cult status and boasts an impressive 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One reviewer said: “Where it all began for Tarantino. This movie is so good it launched one of the most successful directing careers ever.”, reports the Mirror.
Another added: “An extensive but contained story, with a great sense of rhythm, the foundations of what would be Tarantino’s style are noticeable. All the performances are perfect except for MR. Brown’s is better at directing and not a car apparently.”
A third wrote: “Wild to have this big of a directorial smash this early in a career. Minus 15 minutes and it’s a 10. Legendary cast of talent”.
A fourth viewer said: “This crime movie by Quentin Tarantino was really good. Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Steve Buscemi, Chris Penn, Tim Roth, and the rest of the cast did an excellent job in this movie.

“The plot of the movie was dramatic and insane. It’s about a heist gone wrong with the crew wanting to know who is a rat. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It’s a must see.'”.
A fifth posted: “Tarantino’s debut, ish, is his masterpiece. He blends his interesting dialogue with a mystery and cool timeline,”.
Another viewer lauded the leading performers, writing: “Reservoir Dogs stands as a beautifully written and filmed collection of scenes that actors likely dream of performing.
“However, trying to comprehend the central idea of the movie pulled me completely out of the experience, and made it just compelling scenes and not more.
“Harvey Keitel and Tim Roth deliver the most compelling narrative elements of the film, truly showcasing their exceptional talent.
“Amazing setting for a film that stayed mostly between the four walls of an old warehouse, the characters and their introductions are done brilliantly, with Tarantino choosing to drag dialogue out purposefully to play with the watcher’s mind.”
An intriguingly early disclosure of the undercover officer works effectively, with the Wolf himself only discovering the truth at the film’s conclusion, almost as if his awareness (or absence of it) is paramount. And the acting is so believable, top-tier by all,” said another.
Reservoir Dogs airs on Thursday 5 February on ITV at 10.55pm.
