Film enthusiasts eagerly waiting for the release of Wuthering Heights can now watch the director’s gripping 2023 thriller at no cost.

Writer-director Emerald Fennell burst onto the scene just three years ago with Saltburn, featuring Euphoria star Jacob Elordi.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker is now preparing to return with Wuthering Heights, once again casting Elordi in the lead role of Heathcliff. Based on Emily Brontë’s beloved novel, the tragic love story arrives in cinemas on 13 February.

Anyone eager to explore Fennell or Elordi’s previous work can head straight to BBC iPlayer, where Saltburn is available to stream free of charge.

Taking place in the mid 2000s, the film follows University of Oxford student Oliver (Barry Keoghan), who finds himself unable to connect with his peers, reports the Mirror.

His attention becomes fixated on upper-class student Felix (Elordi), who subsequently extends an invitation to spend the summer at his family’s sprawling estate, Saltburn.

The idyllic summer descends into darkness as multiple tragedies befall the household. The psychological thriller delves into significant themes including class divisions.

The film secured an impressive five BAFTA Film Award nominations, including recognition for supporting actress Rosamund Pike and lead actor Keoghan.

Elordi received acknowledgement in the Supporting Actor category, whilst Fennell earned a place on the Outstanding British Film of the Year shortlist. Despite boasting an impressive ensemble, Saltburn has divided opinion amongst critics and audiences alike.

Whilst some felt its social critique lacked depth, others were utterly captivated.

One Rotten Tomatoes viewer reflected: “The more I think about this film – the more it grows on me. Saltburn is as captivating as it is stunning with stand out performances by both Barry Keoghan and Rosamund Pike.

“The direction is beautifully done, with a twist ending oh so well earned.”

Another enthusiast raved: “Omg!!! I love this film watched it ten times I think it’s brilliant all the cast do an amazing job it’s cringe in places but it’s a brilliant sick thriller”.

However, one unimpressed viewer criticised: “This movie is all art and no heart…and very vapid pseudo deep art at that..”

While a fourth countered: “I’ve seen this so many times now. I don’t care what anyone has to say, I love it.”

Saltburn is streaming now on BBC iPlayer
