Man finds £900 boots in charity shop at incredible price

Having a look around charity shops can be a bit of a gamble. The shops run on donations handed in by the local community, so every one you visit will have an entirely different range of stock. If you’re on the hunt for a bargain, however, charity shops can have a wealth of hidden treasures – not only are you likely to score a deal, but you’ll be helping a good cause, too.

One man on social media recently got the shock of his life when he visited a charity shop and found a pair of boots that were supposed to retail for a staggering £900. Checking the price tag on the boots caused his jaw to hit the floor, as he couldn’t believe the bargain he was about to bag.

In a video shared on TikTok by Lola Amuah, she and her partner, Pete, visited a charity shop run by Save The Children in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, after being told that the shop gets “all their donations from London”. Believing that the people living in the capital must have more disposable income and therefore will donate higher-value goods, they raced to the shop to see what they could find – and were not disappointed.

Lola first found a blue dress by the brand & Other Stories, which was priced at just £9 in the charity shop. While the specific dress is no longer available on the brand’s website, the cheapest one currently available from the company will cost you £55 new.

The woman then found a denim shirt, which Pete told her was from Eddie Bauer, a well-known brand of premium outdoor clothing and outerwear. They didn’t share how much the shirt was priced at, but they generally cost around £60 new.

Speaking about the shirt, Lola said: “Everyone needs to buy one of these. They’re always in a charity shop, and they’re just such a staple. I’m not even wearing one today, but I should be.”

After moving on from the shirt, however, Pete hit the jackpot. He came over to Lola, holding a pair of black boots in his hand, and told her to take a look inside at what brand they were.

When she did, she put her hand over her mouth in shock and asked Pete how much the mysterious boots were priced at in the charity shop – as they were worth a whopping £900 new.

The boots were from Loewe. While they also aren’t available on the brand’s website any more, the cheapest men’s boots on the site are priced at an eye-watering £1,100.

So how much did Pete shell out for the designer boots? Just £9.

In the video, he declared he would buy them “just because [he] can”, and seemed to indicate that he wasn’t particularly fond of the shoes themselves but couldn’t miss out on the huge bargain. Commenters were blown away by the price, but most poked fun at the style of the black boots, joking that just because they have a designer label doesn’t automatically mean they’re good or fashionable.

Some also criticised Pete and Lola for “only caring about the label”, but Lola responded to say that her mission is to prove that shopping at charity shops is worth it so that more people give their local stores a chance. She said: “I actually don’t care about the brand, but my hope is to bring more people into charity shops.

Many say ‘it’s all tat’, or ‘it’s all Shein’, and that’s just not true. You can find insanely high-quality items that anyone can afford, and I love that about thrifting.”
