A number of popular everday items have been pulled off the shelves this week, with customers warned not to use the products. The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a series of product recalls over items that pose a risk to the public.

Their warnings have included shampoo, conditioner, toys, homeware and appliances. Some of the products pose a chemical risk, while others have been found to contain asbestos. We have rounded up the most important product recalls from over the past week to be aware of…

Shampoo and conditioner

The Pilgrim Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner Set has been removed from Amazon after a banned ingredient that poses a “serious chemical risk” was found. It contains Zinc Pyrithione, which is prohibited for use in cosmetic products.

The products affected have the code: HS5130 Jul 2025 395.00 1.98. Amazon’s codes are B0D5DBM7G7 for the shampoo and B0D5D9BF3Q for the conditioner.

The OPSS warned: “The product presents a serious chemical risk as the ingredients list indicates it contains Zinc Pyrithione, which is prohibited for use in cosmetic products.

“It also includes the following undeclared allergens: hydroxycitronellal, hexyl cinnamal, and limonene. This could lead to consumers with sensitivities using these products and having an allergic reaction.”

Craft toy

Hobbycraftrecalled its Giant Box of Craft product after tests revealed that the coloured sand may contain a “small quantity” of asbestos. The OPSS warned that even low-level exposure to asbestos can pose a health risk.

The affected item, sold under the Hobbycraft brand, is described as a box of mixed craft supplies containing vials of coloured sand. The product number is 6686021000, which is printed beneath the barcode on the packaging, and was manufactured in China.

Sun cream

Hello Sunday The One For Your Eyes SPF 50 was recalled this week. It is sold in Boots stores across the UK and online, as well as other retailers.

All batch numbers and expiry dates are included in the recall. The recall comes after tests discovered the product failed to meet the level of SPF stated on the product label. Customers have been urged to return the product and receive a refund.

Homeware

Next issued a recall notice for two of its homeware items – their Gingerbread Serveboard and Gingerbread Nibble Bowls. They both feature a festive-inspired design but the enamel coating on the homeware items can crack and chip.

There is a risk to customers as they may accidentally swallow pieces of the material, which could pose a danger. The OPSS warned: “We recommend you cease use of this product immediately and return to your nearest Next store for a full refund.”

Hairdryer

The OPSS issued a warning about the Hairdryer LD-330, which has been rejected at the border for not meeting safety standards. The product identifiers are IC950351251009660, 921555291788, 950351-T50, and 7016801.

It came from China and is described as a styling hairdryer with an attached wall plug. “The product presents a high risk of fire because the plug fuse does not meet the requirements of BS 1362,” the OPSS said.

“The filler is required to ensure the safe operation of the fuse under fault conditions, and its absence could lead to the plug overheating and/or exploding.”
