A movie critic urged people to ‘stop what they’re doing’ and check out an ‘amazing’ film that’s currently available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

While the last year blessed film enthusiast with plenty of good blockbusters – including Sinners, Avatar: Fire and Ash, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and 28 Years Later – it’s also nice to go back to watch old classics you might have missed.

But, with so many options available on streaming platforms, it can be difficult to know where to start. To help, film enthusiast Luke Eccleston shares recommendations with his 358,600 TikTok followers.

In a recent video, Luke urged people to watch a film from 1995 and claimed it’s one of the best ‘hidden gems’ available.

He said: “Please stop whatever you’re doing, because you have never seen a film like this. And it’s the biggest hidden gem I have ever found.”

The film in question is The Cure from 1995, a 97 minute long drama film currently available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Luke added: “Trust me, this is a five star, perfect film. I have never felt the way I felt watching this film.”

The film tells the heartwarming yet emotional story of a teen who moves to a new neighbourhood and befriends the young boy next door, who also happens to have AIDS due to an infected blood transfustion.

Despite being bullied and ignored due to his diagnosis, the boy forms an unlikely friendship in his neighbour. After hearing about a possible cure, the two friends set out on a quest across the US to find it.

It’s got a respectable score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics prasing the then-teen actors, Brad Renfro and Joseph Mazzello, for their impressing performance. They also admitted the emotional story had brought them to tears.

Luke praised: “It reminds me so much of films like ‘Stand By Me’, and there’s so much hope and journey, and it’s such a great, funny film.

“But honest to god, them last 25 minutes, I have never ever broke down that much. That wasn’t even the worst part, I’m not even joking.”

It wasn’t just Luke who praised the “beautiful” movie, either. Several viewers took to the comments section to share their own thoughts.

One wrote: “I’m off to watch it now.” Someone else confessed: “This film broke me.” And a third viewer shared: “OMG!! Watched this with my sister tonight and we cried from beginning to end!

“One of them films you’ll remember forever. Absolutely beautiful yet so heartbreakingly sad. We absolutely loved it. Keep sending your recommendations!”

The Cure is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime.
