A “masterpiece” horror film that a fan suggested has one of the best twists ever is streaming now in the UK. Us (2019) is a psychological horror film written and directed by Jordan Peele, that follows Adelaide Wilson (played by Lupita Nyong’o) who reluctantly goes on holiday with her husband Gabe (Winston Duke) and their children Jason and Zora (Evan Alex and Shahadi Wright Joseph).

But during the trip a group of menacing figures, known as the “Tethered” arrive at their holiday home, and it soon becomes clear there’s something unsettlingly familiar about them. Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker are also among the ensemble cast. Us was Peele’s second feature film after his critically acclaimed directorial debut Get Out (2017) for which he won Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

Many fans on Rotten Tomatoes showered Us with praise, with one calling it “another masterpiece from Jordan Peele”.

“This movie was spectacular! It was terrifying yet intriguing, and it had a really captivating story that left me wanting more. I definitely recommend it for horror fans!”, they added.

Another wrote: “Us had a great horror aspect to it, suspense and thrill. One of the best endings and twists we’ve seen today in movies. Must see movie”

A third said:” Love, love, love. You’ll never expect the twist, the family is so deep and you feel for the characters.

“I looovvee Jordan peeles satisfying endings and I love his character work, beautifully filmed as well with a bunch of foreshadow and hidden messages. Jordan Peele strikes again.”

But though the film has a superb 93% score on the site’s Tomatometer, reflecting the percentage of approved critics you have given it a positive review, it proved divisive among general audiences on the platform, indicated by its 61% Popcornmeter score.

Some felt it didn’t land, with one saying: “Convoluted plot that has promise but leads no where.” Another said: “Nice twist towards the end but it just doesn’t quite all connect.” Others suggested it didn’t match up to the brilliance of Get Out.

But many disagreed with one person saying: “Unpopular opinion alert: this movie is superior to Get Out.”

Another wrote: “I saw it for the first time about 5 years back. Us sticks with me and haunts me the to this day. That is the highest honor one can give a horror movie in my opinion.”

The film has a 15 certificate and features from extremely violent scenes. The BBFC flags strong language, violence, and threat – so viewer discretion is advised.

Us was made available to watch again on Netflix in the UK on Christmas Day after being removed in September.
