An incredible 25 years have elapsed since How the Grinch Stole Christmas graced the big screen – yet it remains a cherished favourite during the festive period.

This live-action holiday spectacular features Jim Carrey as the eponymous emerald curmudgeon, adapted from Dr. Seuss’s enduring 1957 children’s classic.

The tale takes place in the enchanting town of Whoville, where its joyful inhabitants are enthusiastically gearing up for their Christmas celebrations. But the Grinch, a bitter creature living in solitude on Mount Crumpit with his devoted dog Max, nurses profound animosity towards the Whos and their seasonal jubilation.

Driven by his loathing of Christmas and the Whos’ materialistic fixations, the Grinch devises a plot to “steal Christmas” by sneaking into Whoville during the night to snatch their presents, ornaments, and holiday banquet on Christmas Eve.

The production has earned a remarkable 18 accolades and received 37 nominations, establishing its position as one of the most celebrated Christmas films ever made. However, despite its triumph, sharp-eyed viewers have recently discovered an error they argue ruins the entire viewing experience, reports the Mirror.

TikTok user @cobweb exposed a glaring continuity blunder in one specific scene where Jim Carrey’s natural brown eyes are plainly visible instead of the Grinch’s characteristic vivid green ones.

This strips away some of the enchantment from the moment, with one disappointed viewer lamenting: “You ruined it for me.”

Others expressed their shock, with one declaring: “I just screamed. I’ve never seen this.”

However, some devotees found the oversight quite captivating. One admirer gushed: “I freaking love little details like this.”

Elsewhere, one viewer admitted: “I’ve watched the Grinch so many times and never noticed this.”
