Cillian Murphy returns as Tommy Shelby in the electrifying first glimpse of the forthcoming Netflix film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

The eagerly awaited sequel to the phenomenally successful BBC period crime drama has been penned by showrunner Steven Knight and helmed by director Tom Harper.

The ensemble cast features some heavyweight names from television and cinema, including Rebecca Ferguson from Dune, Tim Roth from Reservoir Dogs, Sophie Rundle from Gentleman Jack, and Oscar-nominated Barry Keoghan, renowned for his role in Saltburn.

The film’s synopsis states: “Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet.

“With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground. By order of the Peaky Blinders..”, reports Birmingham Live.

The trailer opens with scenes of the legendary gangster as a voiceover questions: “Whatever happened to Tommy Shelby? The famous gypsy gangster.”

Tommy declares “I’m not that man anymore”, before images of a catastrophic explosion are shown.

A woman’s voice then urges him, “Tommy, you’ve got to come back”, before he pounds his fists onto a desk and we witness rapid cuts of intense action alongside the film’s fresh additions to the Peaky Blinders universe.

The trailer concludes with Tommy striding deliberately in slow-motion towards the camera as the film’s title is unveiled. Netflix has announced the feature film will arrive in selected cinemas on 6th March before becoming available for streaming a fortnight later on Friday, 20th March.

The one-minute teaser is rapidly accumulating views as thrilled fans flocked to the comments section in eager anticipation of the gripping sequel to the acclaimed drama which wrapped up in 2022.

One YouTube user declared: “Holy S#@! Tommy is back. Legendary character, Legendary show, bring it on, By order of the Peaky Blinders.”

Another viewer described the trailer as giving them “pure goosebumps”, whilst a fellow fan hailed the teaser as “the best Christmas present”.

A third supporter quipped: “My theater just kicked me out for being seated too early to see this movie.”

Enthusiasts had additional cause for celebration as Knight revealed earlier this year that a fresh chapter of Peaky Blinders will emerge following the film, comprising two six-part series for the BBC and Netflix.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is in select cinemas on 6th March and on Netflix from Friday, 20th March.
