Hidden gem action film ‘as good as John Wick’ on Film 4 tonight | Films | Entertainment
Action film enthusiasts are set for a real treat with a movie that’s been praised as being on par with the John Wick series airing on television tonight.
Boasting the tagline “never underestimate a nobody”, this 2021 thriller features Bob Odenkirk, Aleksey Serebryakov and Gladiator’s Connie Nielsen.
Nobody was helmed by director Ilya Naishuller, penned by Derek Kolstad, and produced by Odenkirk himself.
According to IMDB, the storyline is straightforward: “A docile family man slowly reveals his true character after his house gets burgled by two petty thieves, which, coincidentally, leads him into a bloody war with a Russian crime boss.”
Nobody showcases thrilling action sequences with Odenkirk performing the majority of his own stunts as the protagonist following two years of intensive physical preparation, reports the Mirror.
The film’s narrative was also reportedly influenced in part by Odenkirk’s personal encounters with home invasions, although he has clarified that the traumatic incidents weren’t the main driving force behind the gripping plot.
For cinema enthusiasts seeking an adrenaline-fuelled viewing experience, Nobody seems to deliver exactly what’s needed, with audiences heaping praise on Odenkirk’s leading performance.
Packed with clever dialogue and fast-paced action scenes, numerous film lovers have declared it ideal for those who adore movies like John Wick.
In a Rotten Tomatoes review, one critic awarded the film five stars with a straightforward assessment: “This movie is good because its like a more mild version of john wick.’
Another five star review wrote: ” One glowing five-star review read: “Very entertaining. I’m a huge John Wick fan and I loved how this had its own flair and cause. Made me want to watch the second one right after. I always enjoy getting to watch Bob Odenkirk. And this was such a very fun movie. We laughed out loud several times. It was extremely enjoyable. If you enjoy action movies at all, you must watch this. Christopher Lloyd really looked like he was genuinely enjoying himself,” said another with five stars.
Some viewers said the film was ‘worth every penny’, as one person wrote: “I finally watched it.. This action movie is a smash. Worth every penny.”
Another implored fellow film enthusiasts to see it, posting: ‘”Excellent movie! I have watched it over and over again, and have loved it every time. Must see movie for action fans!””.
Film buffs were treated to a sequel, Nobody 2, released in the summer, which continued where the first film left off.
The follow-up has also garnered five-star reviews and acclaim from cinema-goers, with many admitting they’ve been ‘binge watching’ the two films back-to-back.
