Tate McRae is an angel who doesn’t want her wings to be clipped in the new video for “Nobody’s Girl.” On Friday, as she released the deluxe edition of So Close to What, McRae shared the visual for the single.

The trippy video opens with McRae singing into a retro camera, dressed as an angel with wings, but wandering through an underground cement room as if she were trapped. “How many times can I shapeshift into someone else?” McRae sings as her image splits into a kaleidoscope of dancers.

In the lyrics, McRae seems to grapple with the difficulties of being invested in her career while navigating love. Later, she appears with glittery angel wings in a forest setting before reflecting on the end of a relationship in a haunting bridge.

“And when I ask, the angels sing / They say, ‘Real love doesn’t clip your wings’ / I love love and affection and fancy things,” she sings. “But I think I like me more / And when I cry, gotta wonder why.” She ends the bridge with, “When one closes, the universe opens a new door.”

The new version of So Close to What, styled as So Close to What???, includes four new songs: “Trying on Shoes,” “Anything but Love,” “Nobody’s Girl,” and “Horseshoe.” She also added the previously released track “Tit for Tat.”

The five additional songs were added to the top of the deluxe version of the record, while “Siren Sounds,” which was included in a reissued edition, was also included at the end of the track list.

The deluxe edition comes just a week after she wrapped her 81-stop tour for the album, which concluded in Los Angeles with the in-person announcement of the deluxe version of her fan-favorite third record.

“We had a few more songs that I wanted to share with y’all to close out the SC2W era,” McRae wrote on Instagram as she announced the revisit and its new cover. “I can’t wait for you to hear.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, McRae said the title stems from “the idea of not being present at times, feeling like you’re trying to control everything, feeling perceived by so many people, feeling like I’m 21 and the oldest I’ve ever felt but also so young.”

She added: “In the moment, I’m [asking] ‘What do I want out of life? What do I want to do with my music? How do I want to change things?’ If people have an opinion on that, that’s their choice.”
