As the government shutdown inches closer to becoming the longest in U.S. history, President Donald Trump is again threatening to use the “nuclear option,” of ending the filibuster to allow Republicans to pass bills with a simple majority. The Trump administration now faces a deadline to comply with a federal judge’s order to fund SNAP benefits while communities issue states of emergency to help food assistance recipients.
