Shoppers rush to buy ‘chic’ £80 denim coat from M&S

Autumn fashion is all about smart choices, from layering up to choosing the right coat. It’s not yet cold enough to bring out heavy winter coats, but the chill in the air calls for a good top layer. If you’re not ready to let go of your denim jacket now that it’s getting colder, Marks and Spencer has a longline version that’s perfect for this transitional period.

According to the retailer, this £80 denim car coat is popular online, selling over 20 times in the past five days, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The coat is made of versatile dark wash denim with a contrasting tan corduroy collar that adds a casual touch. Denim can be stiff, but the cotton-rich fabric has added stretch for extra comfort. Sizes range from 6 to 22, but shoppers have already rushed to buy larger sizes, so a few are already sold out.

It’s long, coming to just below the knee, and closes with metallic silver poppers and a zipper. The back is split but can also be closed for a more streamlined silhouette, and there are two large pockets that are great for taking just the essentials on a walk. The collar can also be turned up and closed with an extra flap.

Although the coat doesn’t have a lining, that makes it ideal for layering, as it would look great paired with any jumper, a polo neck or a big scarf. It’s perfect for crisp walks in trousers and boots, but the dark wash makes it chic enough to be styled with an all-black outfit and heels in the evening. 

M&S shoppers were pleased with the coat, with one commenting on the lenght. “Lovely coat”, they wrote. “At last a long denim coat, so chic. Well done M&S, lovely length and quality denim.”

The five-star review continued: “I have had so many compliments on this coat and so many friends wanting to try it on and then going off to buy it.”

“Love it”, wrote a second shopper, adding it’s “comfortable, casual, smart, [and] not too bulky to wear.”

A third five-star review reads: “Beautiful coat, feels amazing on. Well made and excellent material. Highly recommended and lots of compliments wearing it.”

However, one shopper pointed out the coat’s length might not be for everyone, saying: “Being 5ft 1ins, it is rather long though. I wish you would consider making more clothing for shorter people.”

Despite this, they said they “love the style of the coat” and added it’s “good quality denim and well made.”

As there are no petite sizes, it would be a good idea to check the length before purchasing.
