A ‘perfect’ horror film that’s perfect for Halloween watching is currently available on Netflix.

Halloween, the 2018 follow-up to the cherished 1978 original, can be streamed at no additional charge.

Set 40 years after the initial movie, it sees Laurie Strode confronting Michael Myers decades following her survival of his murderous rampage.

Horror enthusiasts will remember that the seventies masterpiece centred on Michael, who had been imprisoned for murdering his sister, after he breaks out from a psychiatric facility and returns to his home town seeking fresh victims.

Academy Award winner Jamie Lee Curtis portrayed Laurie whilst Tony Moran embodied the terrifying character of Michael, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The slasher movie laid the foundation for a series of films set within the Michael Myers world, though the 2018 instalment disregards the storylines of every other entry in the franchise.

Directed by filmmaker David Gordon Green, the contemporary version of Halloween subsequently spawned two additional films, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.

However, the initial film emerged as a resounding favourite amongst fans. Rotten Tomatoes critics granted it a “certified fresh” 79 per cent rating.

Their verdict commended the horror sequel for clearing the slate after decades of underwhelming sequels.

General audiences were equally impressed, with one writing: “A masterpiece of modern horror that perfects a great classic.”

Another viewer gushed: “Great movie better than most Halloween movies.”

Meanwhile, another reviewer revealed: “At first I was sceptical, from my past experiences with horror reboots I honestly thought this one was going to be another terrible cash grab. Boy was I wrong…HALLOWEEN 2018 was probably one of the best reboots I have ever seen.”

A different fan mirrored the acclaim: “One of the best entries on the Halloween franchise. Tense, violent, atmospheric, dark, well acted (much better than the original regarding this btw). Yeah, love this one even more than when I watched it for the first time.”

Whilst a third viewer declared: “Saw the first one in the theatre in 1978 it took 40 years but was worth the wait. The darkness to the movie match the original. It is a perfect sequel hands down.”

Anyone keen to revisit the seventies classic can watch Halloween without charge on BBC iPlayer.
