James Bond fans decide on ‘most charming’ actor to play role | Films | Entertainment
Fans of James Bond believe they have figured out who the “most charming” actor to have played the role is.
From fan favourite Sean Connery to most recently Daniel Craig, fans are spoilt for choice when it comes to picking their favourite interpretation of the secret agent.
But some believe James Bond is at his most charming depending on the era you grew up with the character, as fans of the franchise take to the r/moviecritic Reddit page and share their thoughts.
A “close second” was found as fans argued over the “most charming” Bond to grace the screern, and it’s not who many fans would expect.
Viewers believe Craig has one preceding actor to thank for a lot of the key themes of his films, while others believe a star who would appear in the franchise four times is a brilliant draw.
A fan asked: “Who’s been the most charming James Bond ever?” Dedicated fans were split on who best represents the franchise, with one person writing: “For me it’s Pierce Brosnan. But the correct answer is Sean Connery.”
Others believed Brosnan could be better than even Connery, with some suggesting it’s the Dr. No star who is a “close second” to the Goldeneye lead.
Another added: “The question is Most Charming and for that I absolutely go Brosnan. Connery was suave but he wasn’t what I would call particularly charming. Connery’s Bond felt like the center of the world, Brosnan’s Bond could make another person feel like the center of his.”
A third shared that Timothy Dalton was also a definite candidate for most charming Bond star. A fan of Dalton’s two-film take on the secret agent wrote: “Personally, I thought The Living Daylights was underrated.
“Dalton played the character very much as Fleming had written. Dry, and more mission – oriented.
“It isn’t perfectly meshed with the big action adventures they had been since Goldfinger. Still, having read Fleming’s Bond, I understood what he was trying to do, and he actually fits the description of that Bond well, minus the scar he had received on the right side of his face from a German knife during the war.”
Others believed it was Roger Moore who provided the “quintessential” Bond experience. They wrote: “Roger Moore is quintessential cinema Bond. He is lovely, dangerous, smart, and very lucky. I think he is what people think of when you hear ‘James Bond‘.
“He can charm people – not just women – and work angles beyond pointing a gun at someone. I also think he acts very mysterious as a secret agent and blends his disguises well.”
Another disagreed, writing: “Charming and suave goes to Sean Connery, second is Pierce Brosnan. Daniel Craig was the perfect bond for this era. Just charming enough to be believable but the kind of Bond that will break your neck.”
