Nicki Minaj Cancels Plans for Sixth Album in Post Blaming Roc Nation
Last month, Nicki Minaj revealed the release date for her sixth studio album. The follow-up to 2023’s Pink Friday 2 would arrive on March 27, 2026, the rapper announced on social media. A few weeks have passed since the date was set, but Minaj has hit pause on her countdown.
“Ok I’m not going to put out the album anymore,” she wrote on social platform X on Oct. 15. “No more music.” At the end of the post, Minaj added, “Hope you’re happy now” and tagged Jay-Z’s account. Bidding her fans farewell, she wrote, “Bye, Barbz. Love you for life.”
To its credit, her fanbase has been calling her bluff in response. The replies to the post express full disregard for the statement with fans stating that they simply don’t believe her.
Reps for Minaj did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.
In the posts that preceded the apparent album cancellation, Minaj spoke about dissenters who “don’t want me to put out music.” Without explicitly naming any parties, she continued, “Me winning makes them feel like they lost. They’re right. However, it didn’t have to be this way. Lots of ppl part ways in business. They know how successful my next album is going to be.”
In other posts, Minaj criticized Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, nodding to discontent between her and the label. She specifically referenced a legal battle in which she and husband Kenneth Petty were ordered to pay $500,000 to a security guard over an alleged backstage altercation that left the man with a broken jaw. The ruling was issued from a Los Angeles judge in March 2024.
Minaj commented on a TikTok post from Page Six that claimed she has “refused” to pay the court ordered amount. “Desiree Perez you mad. Ahhhhahahaaaaaaa,” she wrote. “CONSPIRACY. FALSE IMPROSONMENT. CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS!!!! ROC NATION CEO. ААНААААНННААААА.”
In her X post about the parties allegedly pushing back on her album, Minaj said, “Tried to sign Wayne, Drake, me. So they keep wanting to take or stop my money simply b/c narcissists believe what you work hard for belongs to them. Fuming b/c they can’t siphon anymore energy, money, blessings, love, grace, joy, PEACE… the culture. No successful tours. Just vibes & payola.”
Fans will have to wait until March to see whether Minaj was truly bluffing, though they’ve been looking forward to a new project from the rapper since September 2024. At the time, she announced plans to release an entirely new album rather than an extensive deluxe version of Pink Friday 2. “The new music is just too good to be thrown away on a deluxe album,” she said. “Last night, the songs I recorded were just way too iconic.”
